Vakseen TV: Janelle Monae performing at Nokia Live

We went to see the amazing Janelle Monae perform at LA’s Nokia Live and were treated to an amazing performance. Armed with the funk and footwork of James Brown reincarnated, Janelle treated fans to gems from her albums, a few covers and a special appearance from the show’s opener, Big Boi of Outkast. Indie Spotlight: Royal Canoe (@RoyalCanoe)

If Outkast, Beck and Radiohead had a baby, Winnipeg-based band, Royal Canoe is definitely the love child. They create samples by running conventional sounds through unconventional pieces of gear, drumming on bathtubs and garbage cans, listening to Outkast and manipulating bits of old records.  Check out their newest releases Purple and Gold and Extended Play below.
